Preparing your Lawn
This is the perfect time to fill in Bare patches in your yard with sod because it can establish roots much easier than in hot, dry weather. Adding sod now will give you that full, instant lawn when spring comes up.
Pruning Shrubs and Hedges
Pruning encourages healthy growth and should be done once the leaves turn, indicating that the plant has gone dormant.
As a rule of thumb, make a good cut with a slight angle about 1/4 an inch from the branch.
Wrap delicate shrubs in burlap to protect them from frost damage and put a layer of mulch down to help protect them, too.
Trees
Make sure to keep tree limbs away from power lines and the roof of your house. Ice, wind and piled up snow can really weigh them down, break them and possibly cause preventable damage.
Prepare your Fixtures for Winter
Provide proper drainage in your yard to help prevent shifting and cracking of concrete and your walkways. Either add a drainage system or maybe move a drain that drips onto your steps itno another direction.
