Landscaping Basics

Before you can have that gorgeous, admirable lawn and landscaping in your yard, the one that all the neighbors envy, you'll have to start with the basics.

Soil

Soil

The fist thing you'll nee to do is to have your soil tested. Soil can be heavily acidic or alkaline, depending on where you live. Testing is helpful because you'll then need to choose plants and trees that thrive in your type or soil. You may even need to add nitrogen to the soil to allow it to perform at its best.

Utility

Landscaping can be much more than just an attractive garden. Choose how you want to use your yard first, whether it's for security and privacy, a gathering place for family and friends or just somewhere quite to think. Know what you plan to use the area for will help your landscaper plan a layout to meet your needs.

Maintenance

This is an issue that many people forget about when they get caught up in planning and designing their new landscaping. In order to keep your yard looking great and as planned, you'll have to work to maintain its appearance from early spring into early fall. Make sure you choose plants and decorations with your schedule and abilities in mind.
