How Much Mulch?

Mulching is an important part of landscaping and keeping your plant beds healthy and weed-free.

Measurements

Mulch is typically sold by cubic yard, and because that is pretty difficult to measure and convert to fit your yard. We've found an easy measuring formula that you can follow so you don't end up with a leftover pile of mulch or have to make multiple trips to pick up more.

  1. Multiply the length and the width of the place you want to mulch. This gives you the area in square feet.
  2. Decide how deep you want the mulch layer to be. One to two inches is usually enough.
  3. Now multiply the area and the desired depth. (#1 x #2)
  4. Divide the result by 324. This will give you the amount of mulch you'll need in cubic feet.
